15 hours of listening in March: Audible Originals
Best: Jeff Hirsch’s Sovereign is a sci-fi coming of age story with a twist. This young adult work features rich descriptions of the main protagonist’s world while providing the right amount of teenage angst. Micah beats all odds on a remote planet with the help of an alien being. His survival story culminates in a surprising reveal. A more mature reader can grapple with the deeper meaning of the symbiotic relationship of Micah and the alien. While the story doesn’t detail what happens once off the planet, one can speculate if Micah is the same person who landed on Sovereign. The story was captivating and was a quick listen and a nice change of pace from my usual autobiography and political nonfiction.
